Do not do that. A friend of mine borrowed a gun and ended up dead when he went after a wounded Cape Buffalo. Take a gun you already own or that you have used a lot prior to the trip. I would take my 375 H+H Mag. That is more than enough for any Alaskan game. I would use sabot rounds for smaller game such as the wolves. If I did not have that, a 30-06 with some solid core bullets would be good. But I would not go much smaller than that. It weighs just under 10 pounds so it doesn't beat me up too badly. The 30-06; with the right bullet selection; will do just as well if you put 'em in the right place. A really good shot could make do with a .270; but I feel that to be a marginal caliber for Griz or Brown. I'd insist that the hunter next to me be carrying something heavier.
